About
A Whole Book Approach Story Time creates thought-provoking reading experiences by encouraging children to talk about often overlooked aspects of art in picture books - such as visual typography, front matter artwork, and end paper design.

This critical engagement with picture books establishes interactive story times that emerge as facilitated discussions that empower children to actively participate in their learning instead of quietly listening through typical read-aloud times.

FURTHER INFORMATION

What We'll Do In Class

- We begin class by exploring your child's own book to introduce them to its unique creative aesthetics.

- During this time we also gather observations and make predictions about the story of the day based off of clues discovered in the book's artwork and design.

- Then students take turns sharing their thoughts while answering and asking questions as the story is read aloud.

- Class ends with a review of the observations and predictions discovered at the start of class.

Materials Needed

Your child will need to bring their own hardcover picture book to class. This book will be used as a hands-on learning aid and will not be the story read in class.

When to arrive:
3 minutes before
Additional details:
Microphones remain muted through out the duration of a demo class since our teacher to student ratio is higher than a regular class.

However, demo class students still have many opportunities to ask and answer questions, as well as share their thoughts throughout the class by using the raise your hand function on Zoom.

While I wish that I could hear every participant's thoughts and questions, not everyone who wishes to speak may get a turn.

If this happens, I sincerely apologize in advance.
Cancellation policy:
12 hours in advance
Caregiver required:
Optional

Great teacher. Jess is very patient and engaging with the kids while still taking control of the class. I like how she speaks to kids as if she is speaking to adults. I will book her class again.
