About Teacher Cala Galioto (Online)
Miss Cala's history with music, dance and theatre is extensive. She began choir in 3rd grade and continued through her senior year of college (14 years). She began playing the violin in 5th grade and continued through college and beyond (10+ years). She began dance classes at age 9 and continues to pursue activities that center around dance. She began field hockey in 7th grade, continued through high school and received an athletic scholarship to attend Houghton College and play four years of collegiate-level field hockey.
Throughout high school and college she was a swim instructor and life guard for nine consecutive summers at a local recreation program for children ages 4-14, and still continue to certify for CPR/AED and Basic Life Saving every two years.
By the time she was 18 years old she had been in over 100 on-stage performances including dance recitals, plays, musicals, choral concerts, orchestra concerts, and festival performances. In 2007 (senior in high school) she was named the town's Winter Festival Queen for performing a self-choreographed dance routine, answering questions on stage and achieving social, academic and athletic excellence. She was a cast member in Pioneer High School's productions of Annie Get Your Gun, The Sound Of Music, Rags, Oklahoma!, Carousel, And Then There Were None, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
At Houghton College she was known on campus as "the dance girl," as she choreographed many large group dance routines for talent shows and musicals. During her sophomore year at Houghton she auditioned for the hit TV show Glee and received a call back. Also during her sophomore year I participated in the 2009 Miss NY USA Pageant held in Albany, NY and placed in the Top 20 out of 150 women based on poise, kindness, looks, answers to interview questions and style. It was a wonderful learning experience.
Since Houghton College (2011-2020) she has been busy raising her daughter who is 8 years old now, teaching dance classes to children ages 3-9 at a local dance studio and auditioning for different roles at her local theatre.
She has auditioned for the NYC Rockettes kick line twice. While she wasn't chosen to move on in the audition process, it was a wonderful opportunity to learn choreography from some of New York City's finest dance coaches. She has also auditioned for the Buffalo Bandits Lacrosse Dance Team (The Bandettes) twice and had fun learning new choreography and meeting fellow dancers.
At the local theatre the past three years, she was cast as principle dancer for Grease and the Door Mouse in Alice In Wonderland.
