About
What can I expect in the class?
A lot of fun! Children and parents will participate in a storytime full of songs and activities that promote healthy development. The many cognitive and social benefits will last a lifetime.
Do I have to stay with my child?
Yes! The parent or caregiver's participation is essential for children who learn through modeling and experiences. Children cooing, and then babbling are milestones in language acquisition. Babies like to mimic what they hear. By speaking to the child and imitating the child’s sounds, we are not only teaching the child sound patterns, but it encourages taking turns, a process necessary for conversation.
What if my child doesn't want to participate or doesn't seem to focus on any given day?
Children may choose to participate in the activity at hand or to watch. Both choices are positive. Research shows that even if the children seem not to focus on any given day, they are soaking up the new words and skills that the environment offers.
How does early literacy and music help my child build social connections?
Reading and music are excellent ways for children to begin building their confidence and to start developing their social skills. When children are in the company of other children, they’re more inclined to learn new songs and try out new words. It also helps them relate to other children of their age, which also promotes teamwork. It’s even more beneficial when parents or caregivers are involved; children mimic their parent or caregiver, and this creates a stronger bond between them.
