"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." ~ Harriet Tubman
Our Aikido class on this day honors Harriet Tubman. Why?
Harriet Tubman was born in 1822 in Maryland as a slave. She was beaten and whipped by her various masters as a child.
In 1849, Tubman escaped to Philadelphia, but then returned to Maryland to rescue her family soon after. Slowly, one group at a time, she brought relatives with her out of the state, and eventually guided dozens of other enslaved people to freedom.
Tubman exemplifies some of the principles of Aikido - never give up and always take care of others who are in danger.
Note that as a KidPass Live Stage performance, this class and your participation may be posted on KidPass social media. Since it is formatted for a large audience, there will be limited instructor interaction. If you enjoy the class, please visit the instructor's KidPass page where you can find other class offerings and formats including small-group, interactive classes. When to arrive:
They need to wear clothes that are comfortable. If they can be on a carpet, rather than a hard floor, they might be more comfortable. If not, no problem. If they have a martial arts uniform, they of course are welcome to wear it. IFFF they have a "bokken" (wooden sword) or toy sword, they should have it ready IN CASE we use it. If they don't have one and we decide to do sword practice, no worries. They can use a wooden spoon from the kitchen, or simply pretend. If you'd like to purchase either a uniform or wooden sword before the class, just text or call us at 424-209-2083 and we'll be happy to send you one.
