"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." ~ Harriet Tubman
Our Aikido class on this day honors Harriet Tubman. Why?
Harriet Tubman was born in 1822 in Maryland as a slave. She was beaten and whipped by her various masters as a child.
In 1849, Tubman escaped to Philadelphia, but then returned to Maryland to rescue her family soon after. Slowly, one group at a time, she brought relatives with her out of the state, and eventually guided dozens of other enslaved people to freedom.
Tubman exemplifies some of the principles of Aikido - never give up and always take care of others who are in danger.
