About
For January: Cave Art
Thousands of years ago, early humans drew on the wall of caves all over the world and at different times. This class will give children the chance to explore the life of early humans and explore these mysterious symbols, how they were made, and what they might have meant. Museum Visit: National Museum of Natural History

For February: Machines and Car Engines
What machines do you use every day? We’ll take a closer look at machines and how they work before focusing on car engines. We’ll end class by enacting a car engine cylinder and creating our own innovative machines. Museum Visit: National Museum of American History

For March: The Science of Sound
We hear sounds all the time, whether it be cars honking, people talking, birds chirping, or music playing, but how is sound made? We’ll explore how vibration creates the many sounds that we hear every day, and conclude class looking at and creating jazz instruments. Museum Visit: National Museum of American History

For April: Elephants
Elephants are particularly lovable creatures who figure prominently in Indian culture. Children will learn about these gentle giants and visit the Sackler Gallery to hear a story about Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god. Museum Visit: Freer Sackler Galleries

Each class includes playful activities that are intentionally chosen to support your child’s development. Our learning extends beyond the classroom and into the museum where children and parents are encouraged to wonder and explore together as a family. Editor’s Tip
For us, it is exciting to see the impact that museums can have in the lives of our youngest learners. Not only are children exposed to art, history, and science of their own culture, but they also are able to gain an understanding of our global society.
