About
Shearith Israel’s popular Toddler Summer Camp is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 AM for children aged 16-34 months, with an adult caregiver. The program focuses on bonding with friends, colors and shapes, creating arts and crafts, singing songs, and exploring Jewish holidays, music and traditions. Weather permitting, we enjoy outdoor time with small wading pools outside on our Portico “beach” so don’t forget to bring non-slip water shoes, a change of swimmies, and a towel. There are opportunities for the caregivers to support the activities and times when the teacher encourages the adults to sit on the sidelines, fostering the children’s developmental growth and autonomy.
To ensure the comfort, safety, and enjoyment of all participants, please
take note of the following:
*When*: Please arrive on time so we can begin promptly at 9:30 AM.
*Where*: We are located on 2 West 70
th Street (at
the South West corner of Central Park West). The Toddler Program is held
in the Youth Room, located one short flight downstairs, straight down the
hall.
*Stroller parking*: Strollers should be parked tidily outside the Youth
Room. If you arrive on time, Christopher, our helpful teacher’s assistant,
will happily help you bring it downstairs.
*Head Teacher*: The incredible, Liz Rios, will be waiting to greet you in
the Youth Room.
* Wading on our Portico “beach”: come prepared each session for pool time with: non-slip water shoes, a change of swimmies, and a towel.
*Diapers may only be changed in the restrooms. There are changing tables in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
*Adults are expected to attend to the children throughout and actively participate during parts of the session. As such, they should refrain from using cell-phones while camp is in session. During story-time, it is very important that the adults do not talk among themselves; we are teaching the children to listen and they need to do so without disturbance. Remember, this is not a drop-off program, but rather a “Parent/Grandparent/Caregiver & Me program.”
*Snacks: There is a designated snack-time every session; this nutritious
and child-friendly food is provided by the synagogue. We are a strictly
kosher facility, we ask that you and your children not eat food brought
from home or the outside. (For special exceptions, approval must be
obtained by advance by Rabbi Ira Rohde, the synagogue’s *mashgiah*. To
discuss special circumstances, please email us with sufficient lead time
for arrangements to be made).
