About
If you are familiar with Mario, Hello Kitty, Pikachu, and Rilakkuma, then you can easily understand kawaii characters. In this class, we will explore Japanese contemporary drawing styles to create Japanese anime characters of our own vision and design. Students will also learn how to make manga (Japanese-style comic) and basic animation techniques.

Starting with basic drawing techniques, children will learn about and experience various mixed media (like crayon scratch, origami and magazine collage, making textures with acrylic color, using Japanese painting paper and so on…), watch Japanese animation, and create their own characters.

About the Instructor
- Hiromitsu Kuroo is a Japanese artist with a vast experience teaching children in Japan and the United States. He is familiar with both styles of Japanese and American comics, and creates his course curriculum based on the background of each child as well as their own requests to improve their imagination and drawing skills. The uniqueness of his class is that he teaches not only the importance of classical drawing techniques, but also Japanese manga art through origami and clay modeling, which help kids to create more diverse works with three-dimensional aspects. Hiromitsu believes that his class will give kids pleasure to develop their own anime and manga styles and also give them opportunities to find their aptitudes and the various possibilities they can draw from them.

My son loves this place. He didn't know what Manga Anime was until his first class here. His first drawing (last week) was Pikachu. Apparently, we visited again this week and he drew another male Manga Anime character with fireball powers.
We visited the LIC location. There are locations in Manhattan as well. The place is a small Gallery/Japanese Restaurant/Kids Manga Drawing class etc. This week, we enjoyed Japanese noodles right after the class. Yum!

My son really loved this Manga drawing class. He was very quiet and shy at first. After half an hour, he seemed to enjoy the fact that he was able to draw Pikachu straight from an ipad and enjoyed the company with other older kids. He was using the same concept that he does at home but it's even better with the help of an art teacher that could give him better insight and point out missed details. He asked me to book the class for him again. Although, it's quite a ride from Forest Hills to L.I.C. but well worth it for my baby.
