Workshop Description:
Ready to begin your chess journey? Register today to learn the basics of chess including rule nuances and piece names.

Workshop Objective:
Let’s learn how to play chess! Nolan will cover how to set up the board properly, adhering to the rules of the game (i.e. how different pieces move), understanding basic rule nuances such as castling, and the difference between checkmate and stalemate.

This class is meant for elementary-aged students as well as slightly older students who have never played chess before but are looking to try out chess for the first time to see if it’s something they would enjoy.

With a passion for music, art, technology, and working with kids, David prides himself on his creative and academic versatility as a teacher. Over the past four years, David has worked with children in grades K – 5th in the Boston area. David has also worked remotely on Zoom with homeschooled children from all over the United States. David is currently pursuing his master’s degree in elementary education from Curry College in Milton, MA. He specializes in English communication skills, Spanish language skills, World Geography, Writing, and the Creative Arts.

David relishes the opportunity to mold young minds into learning machines! He wants to inspire his students to maximize their learning potential and to show them that the process of learning can be really fun too. For his creative arts classes, having the optimal setup to make the students feel as though there is no virtual barrier is key. David always makes sure to have a proper overhead camera showing his workspace, or depending on the type of class, a stereo-sound enabled screen share of his iPad screen to be front and center.
