Training in Tae Kwon Do can also help prevent bullying, abduction, and obesity in children. Some additional benefits that parents can expect from training in Tae Kwon Do are as follows:
Character Education - Tae Kwon Do practitioners are expected to show respect for their country, their school, their instructors, their fellow students, their parents, and even their opponents. Tae Kwon Do practitioners show respect by bowing and in their manner of speech and address. Tae Kwon Do practitioners should never argue. They should not argue with their instructor during class. They should not argue with fellow students or with their teacher nor parents. Honor, discipline, self-respect, and respect for others are Hallmarks of these teachings.
Fitness - The principles of Tae Kwon Do techniques are based on the design of the human body. For power the body develops the larger powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast agile muscles of the arms and legs. As students’ progress in Tae Kwon Do they learn to coordinate speed, power and develop a concentration to focus all of their body’s strength into a small hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of a foot. Physical training and exercise is intense and develops these muscle groups.
Self-defense - When the speed and power developed through Tae Kwon Do is used in a self-defense situation against the vulnerable parts of an attacker’s body, the results can be incredible. Tae Kwon Do teaches a woman to emphasize many of her natural physical strengths such as power in the legs, while teaching her a method of self-defense efficient against a much larger opponent. Knowing they can defend themselves the students’ confidence will grow and confidence alone is usually enough to deter potential attackers.
Self-confidence - This does not come naturally for many people but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through Tae Kwon Do as students accomplish new goals, their confidence levels increase. Tae Kwon Do instills a sense of discipline, focus, and self-confidence that can carry into all aspects of life.
Major internationally recognized certificate - The Kukkiwon is the educational branch of WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) and tests and certifies its members at various levels of achievement. The WTF is the only organization in the world that is recognized internationally as setting the standard for Taekwondo and regulating the sport of Taekwondo. The WTF is the only organization to meet the higher standards of achievement promulgated by the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”). No other association meets this standard. After intensive study, passing rigorous written exams (mental discipline, culture, and action philosophy) and physical exams. The students are able to participate in the Belt Advancement Test to achieve certain proficiencies before advancing up the ranks of the other belt colors—white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, high brown, red, high red, deputy, and finally black. The black belt for Taekwondo experts includes Dan (degree) grading of 1 through 9. This grading has specific requirements in terms of practice time, age, and complete curriculums as well as the successful completion of the belt advancement tests for each level. In addition, the art of Taekwondo is structured such that a Martial Artist who advances through the belt colors is rigorously trained both in the art itself and also in the art of teaching. In fact, a black belt holder must be qualified as an instructor and highly skilled in imparting this knowledge to students through a structured curriculum and testing methods. Students of this program are qualified to obtain their first and/or higher degree of Kukkiwon Black Belt and its certificate recognized by the World Governing Bodies which have the value of International Olympic and world class level.
