About
Are you concerned about your child learning their sight words? or maybe their teacher is asking them to learn their sight words? Maybe they just need a refresher or practice?
This class is the perfect fit for our young learners beginning their reading journey.
In this ongoing class, students will be introduced and apply five new sight words each week from the Dolch Sight word list. Each week will include a new theme. I find that using themes to teach content helps students be more engaged and excited about what they are learning.
The following are the themes that the class will cover.
Week 1: School
Week 2: Colors
Week 3: Apples
Week 4: Fall
Week 5: Community Helpers
Week 6: Farm
Week 7: Pumpkins
Week 8: Food
Week 9: Family
Why are sight words important to learn? Sight Words are words that we know immediately by sight. Most sight words cannot be decoded. Learning how to read sight words, also known as high frequency words, helps lead the students to reading success and fluency.
This weekly class will engage students in multi-sensory activities in a thematic way. Students will identify and learn new sight words by singing and chants. They will apply the new sight words they are learning through games and stories that have been written by me!
Outline of Class:
-Introduction to new words
-application of new words in a variety of different activities
-Sight word book or game
-Review of words
-Let's share (I like to give my learners a few minutes to share, it could be something related to the topic or just something that happened that day. I like to validate their their thoughts and encourage their excitement for learning)
Meet new friends and learn sight words in an engaging and fun environment! I look forward to meeting you.
