Hi! My name is Anabel Bachrach, but most simply know me as Bel Holiday, or Bel. I teach contemporary voice, musical theatre, beginner's piano, and fundamentals of songwriting. A fun fact about me is that I am absolutely obsessed with everything rainbow, and I even hear colors in my head (it's called synesthesia)! I have ample credentials to indicate that I am qualified as a teacher, despite not yet having a college degree. At just age 17 (2018), I was promoted from unpaid intern in a group theatre class (ages 7-12) to private instructor of voice and fundamentals of piano (my youngest student was 3, and I coached a man in his 50s a couple of times). That summer, I was also given the opportunity to create my own curriculums for self-run theatre workshops (ages 5-12) at the same academy- PEAK PAC in Ridgefield, NJ. The following year, I worked at Super Soccer Stars at various locations throughout New York City and New Jersey as a "Parent and Me" assistant coach (ages 1-4), resigning to go back to school and focus on the advancement of my independent music career, which has been relatively successful thus far, especially given the pandemic. My debut recording has amassed sixty six thousand streams and counting on Spotify alone, I have received press in publications such as American Songwriter and Vents Magazine, I was the recipient of the first-place "Crystal Globe Award" at the 2019 West Park International Music Festival on the basis of performing my original music, I have performed my music for now thousands at events such as The Real Catwalk and venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, and was recently flown to California after rounds of callbacks and interviews to be filmed in front of celebrity judges for a nationally acclaimed television production (for purposes of confidentiality, I am not at liberty to disclose which show publicly).
Credentials aside, I as an instructor stand out due to the fact that I am able to lead with relatability. I consider being young an advantage of mine in this field, as children are more inclined to view me as "one of them," and therefore take me more seriously should they need to be constructively criticized or disciplined at all. While I am whimsical and easygoing, I am also highly focused on ensuring that each student of mine grows at a rate that is fit for them, and with the individualized approaches I cater to my students, I am definitely one to "get the job done," so to speak. The aspect of my teaching that is the most unique, perhaps, is that I subtly incorporate what I've learned about therapy and pop psychology into my lessons. Students will be surprised to find that plenty of effective vocal warmups actually involve reverse psychology (ie: making downward motions during higher notes and vice versa), and I am big on positive reinforcement and formulating plans that focus on maximizing what a student can do to improve, as opposed to harping on what they think they cannot do. For reasons like these, I am both experienced with and eager to teach neurodivergent students (ie: those with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, etc.) in particular, although my approaches are surely suitable for everyone.
While I work in numerous areas of the music industry with all sorts of folks, young children are some of my favorite people to work with. I love the undying curiosity and ability to grow that comes with being young, and in honesty, I am quite the "big kid" myself at times.
Overall, I am beyond fit to be your child's (or even your) instructor in contemporary voice, musical theatre, beginner's piano, and/or fundamentals of songwriting because I understand exactly how positively the arts can shape young minds first hand, and a life goal of mine is to aid in doing so, knowing how positively I have been impacted by my own artistic immersion. I cannot wait to meet you and/or your child!
