About
As a teacher certified in social studies 5th to 9th with a master's degree in education, training in early childhood education, and with fifteen years of experience, I am ready to share research-based activities and strategies that will help students meet the culture of El Salvador and learn to appreciate their ancient civilization and food. This interactive direct instruction class has been designed for special education, ESOL, and English-speaking students from 1st to 6th grade.

Given the opportunity, students can solve more and more problems, figure out unique ways to do something, and want to find out why - a lot! Learning beyond expected helps the teacher become a strong model, allowing students time to try and work through challenges while the teacher asks important questions or provide support to children's learning. Children's skills in all developmental areas grow with these continued opportunities to be actively engaged in their learning and trusted as a learner. Mrs. Algarin stays focused on age-appropriate growth and excited learners who keep building layers of learning and knowledge through practice and novel opportunities - all provided by the teacher as their trusted model and guide. Some concepts previously introduced become easily understood due to continued hands-on learning and repeated opportunities to learn and practice. Children's development improves when they expand their horizons.

About
Happily married for 38 years with the love of my life who also retired as an engineering instructor. I am a mother of four successfully educated adults and a grandmother of a beautiful toddler. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I am increasing my effort to tutor Spanish and English. I am also actively involved in a community outreach volunteer service on how to deal with isolation. I like gardening, exploring natural home remedies, biking, watching inspirational movies based on true stories, and reading good books. I have enjoyed sponsoring groups to learn Spanish, fashion design clubs -pattern making, sewing, embroidery, fashion shows and competition-, and a Hispanic cultural celebration.

CREDENTIALS
I am certified to teach Spanish, SS, and ESOL students who need to learn English but are Speakers of Other Languages. Students who did not learn English as their native tongue and/or continue to use other than English as a dominant language would be considered an English language learner. This endorsement encompasses listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
