About
This is a special FREE online class presented by KidPass Live Stage (https://kidp.as/live). KidPass Live Stage is a free livestream series that is open for the community and showcases many of the incredible classes and instructors on KidPass.

Are you a parent who wants to teach your toddler son/daughter how to read? -¿Quieres aprender a leer inglés?- Are you interested in learning how to create in your children a love for reading? I teach small group reading lessons from the comfort of your home! -¿Está interesado en aprender a crear en sus hijos el amor por la lectura? ¡Enseño lecciones de lectura en grupos pequeños desde la comodidad de su hogar!- Students will gain skills to recognize words and read as they learn to speak. Reading at a young age starts with recognizing symbols, just like babies recognize their mother and relate to their faces. It can also recognize the word ‘mother’ or ‘mommy’ if every time the mother appears, she shows the word ‘mommy’ on a card. In this workshop, children will gain vocabulary at an early age to express themselves with mature vocabulary. -Los estudiantes niños y adultos adquirirán habilidades para reconocer palabras y leer. Leer a una edad temprana comienza con el reconocimiento de símbolos, al igual que los bebés reconocen a su madre y se relacionan con sus caras. También pueden reconocer la palabra "madre" o "mami" si cada vez que aparece la madre, muestra la palabra "mami" en una tarjeta. Los adultos aprendemos de la misma manera. En este taller, los niños y adultos adquirirán vocabulario para expresarse con propiedad. -This is a slow and long, but effective process where parents must be committed to practice until the child becomes an independent reader. These research-based exercises in practicing the application of strategies that work take place in two different sessions of 30-minutes. The class will begin by introducing ten words in just one minute. Yes, you read well: 10 words/min. Parents are required to do this exercise two minutes, three times a day with 2 years-old toddlers, three minutes with 3 years-old, and 4 minutes for 4 years-old children. For multiple exposures, they will hear a story read with those words. Let’s have fun! ¡Vamos a divertirnos!

Ms. Algarin was very informative, cheerful, knowledgeable and certainly was able to reach children's attention. The methods explained are easy to follow and I know it will take a long time. Looking forward to the next session.

About
Happily married for 38 years with the love of my life who also retired as an engineering instructor. I am a mother of four successfully educated adults and a grandmother of a beautiful toddler. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I am increasing my effort to tutor Spanish and English. I am also actively involved in a community outreach volunteer service on how to deal with isolation. I like gardening, exploring natural home remedies, biking, watching inspirational movies based on true stories, and reading good books. I have enjoyed sponsoring groups to learn Spanish, fashion design clubs -pattern making, sewing, embroidery, fashion shows and competition-, and a Hispanic cultural celebration.

CREDENTIALS
I am certified to teach Spanish, SS, and ESOL students who need to learn English but are Speakers of Other Languages. Students who did not learn English as their native tongue and/or continue to use other than English as a dominant language would be considered an English language learner. This endorsement encompasses listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
